A Kitfox Super Sport clipped traffic light poles on its way in to Boise Airport after its pilot flew the approach while intoxicated — a rare case where the NTSB's probable cause is a single, unambiguous sentence with no contributing factors to weigh.

An Approach That Went Low

At about 6:41 p.m. on November 8, 2025, N14PM was on approach to Boise Airport carrying two people. Traffic signal poles are a known hazard near airport approach paths precisely because they sit at a height and location pilots are supposed to fly well clear of — clipping one means the airplane was significantly below or off the normal glidepath. The aircraft struck obstacles in the process, sustaining substantial damage.

Two Survivors, Minor Injuries

Both occupants walked away with only minor injuries — a fortunate outcome for an accident involving a low-altitude collision with fixed obstacles, and one that reflects more on luck and the specific geometry of the impact than on anything the pilot did right.

What the Investigation Found

The NTSB's probable cause does not equivocate: the pilot was operating the airplane while intoxicated, and that impairment is what caused the collision with obstacles on approach. There is no mechanical contributing factor, no weather factor, no ATC factor named in the finding — impairment alone explains why a pilot flying a visual approach in an amateur-built Kitfox ended up low enough, or far enough off course, to hit traffic light poles.
