Small plane skids off runway while attempting to land at Caldwell NJ

On November 6, 2024, a 2011 Beechcraft Baron G58 departed Essex County Airport in Fairfield, New Jersey, with a 58-year-old pilot from Weehawken and a 57-year-old passenger from Bayonne aboard. About six miles into the flight, the pilot noticed electrical issues and immediately turned back toward the airport.

The electrical malfunction prevented the landing gear from deploying properly. As the twin-engine Baron came in to land around 5:35 p.m., it skidded off the runway and came to rest on the grass. Fairfield police and the Fairfield Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Both occupants were uninjured, and the airport was closed while the incident was investigated.
