Pentagon Releases Apollo 12 Crew Audio Describing Unexplained 'Streaks of Light'

Apollo 12 was launched on November 14, 1969, carrying Pete Conrad, Richard Gordon and Alan Bean. During the mission, the astronauts experienced unusual flashes or streaks of light while inside the spacecraft.

The recordings associated with the event were released publicly in 2026 as part of a new release of declassified material. The audio comes from post-mission medical debriefing, in which the astronauts described seeing flashes even when their eyes were closed.

The reports were not observations of an aircraft or an aviation emergency. They were observations made during a crewed spaceflight, and the recording is valuable because it preserves the astronauts describing the phenomenon in their own words.
