Engine Failure After Departure
On 6 May 2020, Volga-Dnepr Flight VI-3175 departed Anchorage for Khabarovsk with 13 crew aboard. The aircraft was an Antonov An-124 registered RA-82043. Shortly after takeoff from Runway 15, the crew reported a failure of the No. 1 engine.
The Fire Was Reported Extinguished
The crew requested a return to Anchorage and was cleared to maintain 2,000 feet while receiving radar vectors. After contacting departure, the crew reported an engine fire and then advised that the fire had been extinguished. The aircraft remained controllable and the crew requested Runway 07R for the return.
A Safe Return
The An-124 was vectored for an ILS approach and landed on Runway 07R about 12 minutes after departure. Emergency services reported that the aircraft was safe to taxi. It remained in Anchorage for about 22 hours before departing again for Khabarovsk.
