Learjet Returns to Naples After Cabin Door Problem

A Learjet 31A registered N977JP departed Naples Municipal Airport in Florida on April 9, 2025, bound for Houston Executive Airport. Shortly after departure, the pilot reported a possible open cabin door and turned the aircraft back toward Naples.

The aircraft returned to Naples and landed safely about ten minutes after departure. The event was treated as an emergency return because a cabin-door indication or opening in flight is a serious pressurization and structural concern, even when the aircraft remains controllable.

Contemporary reporting identified the aircraft as a Learjet 31A and said the FAA would investigate. Flight-tracking information showed the intended Houston destination, while photographs and video from the ground captured the aircraft returning to Naples.

There were no reports of injuries. The short flight also meant the crew could resolve the situation by returning to the departure airport rather than continuing toward the planned destination.

A cabin door is normally secured by multiple locking mechanisms before takeoff. The operational concern in an event such as this is not simply whether the door is physically open, but whether the crew can establish the condition of the door, maintain a safe flight profile and land at a suitable airport.
